Description
Italy’s Luis Radio moves from base to noble with the ‘Alkemy’ EP, the sixth vinyl release from Barcelona’s Groovebom, a label steadily refining, as if by a sonic still, its own pure strain of soulful deep house. Veteran of the Roman scene since the 90s, Radio’s is a chrysopoetic jazz sound: ‘The EWF Theme’ and ‘Alkemy’ use real live piano playing and free-wristed rhythm sections, a lucky fact of his musically learned childhood. The B shifts to freer territory with ‘Vida Boa’ and ‘Papeete’, where cocktail bar mixology unites DJ and bartender through passing piano solo clashes and sax flyovers.
