Fresh from delivering two killer – and decidedly nostalgic – house EPs on Sweden’s admirable Catalaya Music imprint, Cody Ferreira ALA CoCFlo makes his bow on long-serving London label Freerange. Opener ‘Yewnite’ straddles the line between colourful, West Coast US deep house dreaminess and the tech-tinged excellence of Osunlade and Atjazz, while also sporting some trippy vocoder vocals and wonky, off-kilter electronics. Ferreira then embarks on two collaborations with regular vocalist Rawb Boss: the hypnotic, late-night deep house swell of ‘Frequency’, where spacey synths and heady melodic loops catch the ear, and the more stripped-back, bass-heavy early morning sleaze of ‘Ring The Alarm’. To round off an assured EP, Ferreira delivers some laidback, effects-laden, mind-altering acid headiness in the shape of ‘Yapperz’, whose angular TB-303 bassline is superb.
