Description
Unbelievably, nearly 18 years has passed since the release of Alex Attias’ sole album as Mustang, the future jazz-era loveliness of Back Home on Compost. Two picks up the story nearly two decades later, with the talented Swiss producer and multi-instrumentalist sashaying between languid sunrise nu-jazz (wonderful opener ‘Rise Up’), KV5-style bruk-up business (the hard synth-bass and fluid pianos of ‘Boss’), sumptuously soulful deep house (the Clavinet-sporting joy of ‘Roy’), ultra-deep jazz-soul (the Beanfield-esque ‘Moonlight’ and impeccable ‘Stay’), nods to West London originals Bugz In The Attic (‘Wonderlust’) and Dego (‘Whether’) and elasticated late-night house haziness (‘Just a Groove’). It may have taken Attias a while to get round to recording it, but as tricky second albums go, it’s a triumph.
